Yes?Filmed on North Uist in the run up to the Referendum on Scottish Independence, Yes? investigates the complexities and contradictions between human desire, our individual and collective aspirations and the practicalities of their realisation. Reflecting the decisions people were asked to make about the future of their nation without knowing the implications of their vote, there being no blueprint for independence. Random people responded to a variety of closed questions ranging from very profound to the completely trivial.

Scrap HeapNever sure of what the person is searching for or whether he finds it, as they look from the immediate environment to what lies beyond, the viewer is invited to think about their own aspirations for their life and what the future might hold. Machinery that was once gleaming and active, now lies still and lifeless, Its’ former glory forgotten it is discarded and left to decay. Perhaps, parallels can be drawn to our lives, promises unfulfilled and hopes dashed; we are reminded of the futility of life.

Waiting...The space in between; filled with desire and expectation, fear and hope, knowing that something will change, but not knowing quite what all the time waiting, glimpsing but not seeing, sensing but not touching, going deeper, stiller and yet at the same time growing restless and excited... for what? for that which is always just beyond our grasp and yet we know is there.
